2018 Contra Costa County Zinfandel 2018 Contra Costa County Zinfandel

Wow. This might be the best wine we have ever made. Lifted floral aromas give way to silky smooth mouthfeel and flavors of fresh picked wild berries, licorice and underripe plum in this unique take on California Zinfandel. Bottled unfined and unfiltered after 11 months aging in old French Oak barrels. Drink on it's own or pair with just about anything, including turkey, pork, BBQ chicken, and vegetables reduced in red wine or balsamic sauces.

Winemaking
We took about 20% of this Zinfandel and dumped the whole clusters into big T-bin fermenters before destemming the remaining grapes over the top. The Zinfandel then underwent a two week native open-air fermentation before being pressed off into old French Oak barrels, where it aged for 11 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

2019 Amador County Grenache Noir 2019 Amador County Grenache Noir

A perfect Grenache for Pinot drinkers, this chillable red wine is bursting with fruit flavors of wild strawberries, raspberry preserves, and cherry fruit roll up, highlighted with cinnamon and white pepper spices. It's delicious, it's versatile, and we have paired with anything from pizza to duck to grilled chicken and vegetables...the fresh acidity and light tannin finish would even hold up to red meats like Hanger Steak and Filet Mignon. Only 56 cases produced, so please buy this wine before we drink it all!

Winemaking
This is our first time working with the younger vines from the top of a steep vineyard on the east side of Amador County, so we wanted to make a light, fruit-driven wine that could be served chilled and perfect for sipping. To achieve this, we sorted 50% of the fruit whole cluster into the bottom of our large, open-air fermenters and then destemmed the remaining 50% of the Grenache on top of the clusters. The wine underwent a 16-day native fermentation before we lightly pressed the juice into old French Oak barrels, where it aged for seven months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

2019 Clarksburg Malbec 2019 Clarksburg Malbec

We took our favorite barrel of Malbec and bottled only 26 cases of this wine just for our 2020 spring release! This wine is everything you love about Malbec delivered in a light, fresh package, creating a familiar yet unique experience for this rare grape to find in California. Our Malbec has flavors of Santa Rosa plum, blackberry, coffee, and hints of dark chocolate, finished off with the lightest of tannins and loads of fresh, food-friendly acidity. This is a truly versatile red wine that pairs with anything from pizza to ribs, or burgers, steak, and BBQ chicken.

Clarksburg AVA
The Clarksburg viticultural area lies just south of Sacramento alongside the Sacramento river which acts as a night time temperature regulator in this hot daytime region. The sandy, alluvial soils of the region and cooling river influence have many likening it to the Loire region of France, making it a perfect area to grow Chenin Blanc (which we also produce from this same vineyard). However, we also found many similar characteristics in the temperature and soils to the lower regions of Mendoza in Argentina, so we were stoked to pick up this vineyard and make a (rare) California 100% Malbec.

WINEMAKING
We destemmed this Malbec, 100% whole berry and fermented it in very large S-bin open air fermenters. The native ferment immediately took off the first night and the wine was completely dry and pressed off less than one week from picking. The short time on the skins yielded a very aromatic and light bodied wine, which we pressed into old French Oak barrels for 8 months aging before we bottled unfined and unfiltered.

This is our favorite Syrah to date and we are very excited to share it with you! Our Dry Creek Valley Syrah was old-school foot stomped, 80% whole cluster, 20% de-stemmed, natively fermented, and aged for just under 15 months in old French Oak barrels prior to being bottled unfined an unfiltered.

Our 2017 Syrah opens with savory aromas of black olive, gamey meat, and violets, leading into a silky mouthfeel framed by lively earthiness, bramble fruit, and orange peel, finished off with integrated tannins and bright acidity. Enjoy this Syrah on its own, but we love it best with grilled meats, especially a rack of lamb!

2018 Dry Creek Valley Syrah 2018 Dry Creek Valley Syrah

A very special release for us! In 2018 our Dry Creek Syrah was harvested a day before our Viognier grapes, so we decided to take some whole cluster Viognier and co-ferment it with the Syrah (a la Côte-Rôtie style). The result is a savory, yet elevated Syrah with flavors of black olive, fresh leather, violets, blood orange, and bramble fruit with an integrated finish of acid-laced fine grain tannin. A brooding wine an elevated "spritz of perfume" from the aromatic Viognier. Pair with any cut of lamb, beef (sings with Prime Rib or hamburgers), braised foods, or BBQ and smoked meats.

Conduit 2014 Sonoma County Red Wine Conduit 2014 Sonoma County Red Wine

This blend of cool-climate Bordeaux varietals grown in Los Carneros - Sonoma and the Russian River Valley comes together in woodsy tones of cedar and forest floor, flavors of tobacco, cacao, ripe Santa Rosa plum and blackberry bathed in significant acid and tannin structure. A perfect pair with steak (especially Prime Rib or NY Strip), lamb, and hamburgers.

We recommend you decant for at least 45 minutes prior to enjoying.

Winemaking
After the 2014 harvest, it occurred to me that for the first time, I had produced both Merlot and Cabernet Franc and was inspired to create my first red wine blend as an homage to (one of my favorite wine styles) the classic Right Bank Bordeaux wine made using these same grape varietals.
But that wasn't enough...
It's with great pleasure to announce that this one-time only, red wax-capped, Sonoma County Red Wine Blend is now available for purchase while supplies last. This is a wine that I plan on drinking for a VERY long time. It's great now with food, but I would recommend getting a few bottles and aging them for several years, opening one occasionally to see how it's aging.

I selected my favorite barrel of both Merlot and Cab Franc and aged them separately for a year in once-used French Oak barrels before blending them together using 55% Merlot and 45% Cab Franc. I loved the combination of flavors, but the acidity and signifiant tannin in my young blend needed more time to come together. Two more years, in fact.

We finally bottled the two barrels of this wine (unfined and unfiltered) in early August 2017 yielding 43 cases plus 12 bottles of 1.5L magnums and let it sit for months and months and months before we finally decided a few weeks ago that the wine is, at long last, ready to be released.

The Cabernet Franc is from the Algeria Vineyard on the Eastern Bench of the Russian River Valley, where the alluvial soils combined with the warm days and cool nights allow for slow, even ripening of the grapes and a beautiful, balanced wine.
The Merlot comes from the Coplan Vineyard on the Sonoma side of the Los Carneros AVA, where the clay soils and maritime influence of the San Pablo Bay create growing conditions similar to the Right Bank of Bordeaux...in California!
