We are very excited to introduce you to our first estate Syrah (there's another one yet to come), which is co-fermented with our Estate Viognier, a la Côte-Rôtie style and has been tasting great since we pressed it off last Fall!
This special Syrah opens with fragrant aromas of violets and black olives framed by flavors of blueberry, raspberry, under ripe blackberry and soft pepper, followed with light tannin and fresh acidity. Great on its own (and ever-so-slightly chilled) or pair with lamb, burgers, steaks, and winter stews.
Winemaking Our first estate Syrah release is a co-ferment of all whole-cluster Syrah (75%) and Viognier (25%). We sorted and mixed these two varietals (Côte-Rôtie style) in large open-air fermentation vessels where the grapes were foot-stomped once per day through the three week fermentation period. Once dry, we pressed the wine off into old French Oak barrels and aged the wine 10 months before being bottled without fining or filtering.
"Gold Dust Estate Vineyard" Our estate vineyard resides on a ridge line at 2700' elevation in the Fair Play AVA of
southern El Dorado County where the significant diurnal shift and well
draining granitic soils yield wines of focus, minerality, amazing aromatics, and
great structure.
